Nestlé Milo launches mobile playground to encourage kids to play

May 8, 2009

Ho Chi Minh City, May 8th, 2009 Nestlé today announced the launch of a mobile playground programme engaged in different kinds of sports, thereby further strengthening the company's commitment to promoting nutrition, health and wellness through Nestlé MILO. The programme will be stationed around Hanoi and HCMC providing ideas of how easy to set up a simple playground for kids so that kids play sports more often and benefit from their sports activities.

The announcement comes as a response of Nestlé to the research results conducted in 2007, in which the lack of physical activities was seen as one of key issues for children development in Vietnam. The key findings of the research, which were made public by National Institute of Nutrition, include the fact that overweight and obesity are linked to inappropriate nutritional diets and shortage of physical activities. Urban Vietnamese children spend only 3-4 playing-hours each week whereas the standard playing time advised by health experts’ is 7-8 hours/ week.

The MILO Mobile Playground will start rolling from May 11, 2009.  The playground will open in 2 sessions, morning and afternoon, at many popular locations such as Children Cultural House, Tao Dan Park (Ho Chi Minh City), Kim Lien residential area, Be Van Dan primary school, Thanh Cong Park (Hanoi) …. and are open free for all parents children to participate.

“We are in full support of the Government’s efforts to encourage healthier diets and active lifestyles to help counter problems associated with malnutrition and obesity. We have continuously made significant changes to improve our products’ profile to complement the Government’s efforts to create a healthier population”, says Mr. Rashid Qureshi, Managing Director of Nestlé Vietnam.

To this end, Nestlé Group launches recently a series of initiatives to further highlight its commitment to nutrition, health and wellness. As a first new initiative, the Company is launching the Nestlé Healthy Kids Global Programme. Nestlé intends to double the number of countries in which it has nutrition and physical activity education projects by the end of 2011, bringing such schemes to over 100 countries where it operates. This new global programme addresses some of the world's most complex challenges today - both malnutrition and increasing obesity rates, particularly among school-age children. Nestlé currently supports education programmes that reach over 10 million children.
