SCG offers 4 full scholarships for Vietnamese students in Thailand

Ho Chi Minh City, April 27, 2009 – SCG – one of ASEAN’s leading conglomerates and ASEAN Foundation, jointly announces the offering of full scholarships for Vietnamese students to pursue the Master’s Degree program in Engineering at 3 prestigious universities in Thailand. The scholarships, with a total value of US$97,000, are under the scheme of the Regional Scholarship Program, which grants 10 regional scholarships to Southeast Asian university students and government staff to study in Thailand for the academic year 2009-2010. Specifically, SCG will offer 4 scholarships for Vietnamese students pursuing: Master of Energy Technology at Asian Institute of Technology, Master of Industrial Engineering at Asian Institute of Technology, Master of Chemical Engineering at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, and Master of Business Administration at Assumption University.

 

The scholarships are offered to university students currently in last year or recent graduates with experienced not over than 3 years in related fields with GPA 7.0 or above. Each scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodations,  monthly allowance, health insurance, uniform and yearly round-trip airfare for 2 years of study. The program offers an intensive curriculum where students will be exposed to theories and practices of his/her fields of study based on experiences within and outside the classroom. Recipients of the scholarship are also given the opportunity to participate in an internship program with SCG during their senior year and to pursue careers with SCG after graduation without obligation.

 

Following the great success of last year’s “SCG Foundation Regional Scholarship” scheme, SCG will continue to select excellent students for the academic year 2009-2010 as recipients of this scholarship. Especially, this year SCG joins hand with ASEAN Foundation to offer these scholarships to the excellent students of ASEAN countries, including Vietnam and Cambodia

 

The “SCG Foundation Regional Scholarship” scheme is developed based on the guiding philosophy, “Belief in the Value of Individuals”. SCG has launched a variety of scholarship programs in ASEAN countries with a total value of 1.5 million US dollars annually. SCG expects the scholars to utilize their acquired knowledge to develop their own community/country upon graduation in order to further serve the greater cause of development in the ASEAN region as a whole.

Applications for the 4 scholarships will be accepted from now until June 15th, 2009.  The selection process will take place in late June as short listed candidates will participate in the interview round, with the announcement of scholarship recipients informed within a week.

About the SCG Foundation Regional Scholarship Program:

 

SCG foundation, established by SCG, this year offers 10 Regional Scholarships to Southeast Asian university students to study in Thailand, in the academic year 2009-2010. SCG gives full scholarships for government employees attending the master’s program in International Development Studies (MAIDS).  In addition, the foundation reserves many scholarships in master’s and bachelor’s programs in the industries that they are working in other fields of study such as engineering, business administration, etc.   

 Each scholarship, covering tuition fees, accommodations, monthly allowance, health insurance and round trip air ticket will be awarded to the excellent students who aspire to pursue higher education at the leading academic institutions in Thailand, including Chulalongkorn University, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT). Upon graduation, graduates are expected to return to their home countries and contribute to the progress of their respective country. 

 In Vietnam, there have been 3 students who are the recipients of SCG Foundation scholarships in 2007, 2 of whom are local government officials which already completed their graduate studies in International Development Studies (MAIDS) program at Chulalongkorn University while the other finished Master of Industrial Engineering at AIT. In 2008, 4 students are granted scholarships in Bachelor and Master Degree in Engineering.  This year, apart from 1 MAIDS scholarships already reserved for Vietnamese government staff, SCG expects to recruit about 4 graduates to study in Engineering and Business.
