Canon continues fostering Vietnamese education with “Canon – For the next generation” campaign

Hanoi, April 24th, 2009 – Canon officially announces today the implementation of the project named “Canon – For the next generation” from now until the end of 2009. This is a charity program aiming at developing Vietnamese education, providing the best studying facilities for poor pupils by improving the condition and environment of the schools where the campaign touches. Besides this project, Canon has been deploying “Canon friendship schools chain” worth VND 7 billion since 2007 and it continues till 2010, , “Canon – For the next generation” is another demonstration of Canon’s long-term commitment in Vietnam, especially through its educational sponsoring projects for the next generation of the country.

 

In this campaign, Canon helps the schools with financial difficulties in poor provinces to improve the educational environment and recover their infrastructures such as providing a system of clean water and toilets, renewing school-yard, campus, making new paint layers for all the classrooms, planting trees around the school, etc. Besides, Canon also offers computers for schools, books and other studying facilities for the underprivileged pupils in each school. The program is launched first at two primary schools namely Tinh Cuong and Chuong Xa in Cam Khe District of Phu Tho province; after that it will be taking place in other provinces nationwide such as: Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Nai during 2009… At each school, staff of Canon and Le Bao Minh – Canon’s distributor in Vietnam will directly take part in the work and shoot and print photos for pupils as gifts for them on such occasion. The total budget of this campaign is up to 500 million VND.

 

“Canon – For the next generation” once again affirms Canon's Kyosei philosophy which benefits the people and community where it operates: “Living and working together for the common good”. In line with this motto, Canon continues the project “Canon friendship school chain” which was signed with the Ministry of Education and Training and has been implemented since 2007. In the first year of the project, Canon built three new schools at Cam Thuy (Thanh Hoa), Da Bac (Hoa Binh) and Ham Yen (Tuyen Quang). In 2008, Canon continued building four additional ones in Lang Son, Yen Bai, Lai Chau and Ha Giang with the total budget up to VND 2.157 billion. The project will last to 2010 in Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang and Bac Giang etc. 

 

Commenting on the program, Mr. Pham Kim Vien, Headmaster of Chuong Xa primary school said: “The deficiency of teaching and studying facilities has always been a big concern to those who are truly attached and dedicated to education career. And we are always preoccupied with the question how to improve the teaching and learning efficiency. We really appreciate the due support and sponsorship from Canon company.”

Miss. Ngo Phuong Lan, Miss World Vietnamese 2007, also symphonizes the project and accompanies to offer donations along with Canon. The purposes of this program are also aligned with Miss. Ngo Phuong Lan’s objectives in the social activities she’s carrying out in Vietnam.
